Lighthouse Projects

Each EMIL node will create an XR Lighthouse project around its core competence: Smart Garments (Aalto University), Embodied Interaction (UPF), Digital Health (University of Bath) and Narrative Storytelling (Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg). Lighthouse projects will showcase the state-of-the-art in XR research and development, and act as focal points for FSTP proposals. Interconnection between the projects will emphasise the outstanding character of the EMIL infrastructure.

Aalto University
The Smart Garments lighthouse aims to develop smart garments (e.g., gloves and shirts) that combine vibrotactile, electrotactile and potentially also, chemical stimulations to implement various tactile sensations and integrates stimulations into textiles.
University of Bath

The University of Bath will push the boundaries of Exergaming by incorporating physical activity with sensing of users’ feelings and emotions. This will allow for optimised experiences that adapt to the user across a range of applications, including sports training and rehabilitation.

Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg

Filmakademie will create a scalable narrative Location-Based Experience (LBX) with emphasis on dragging the users into a captivating story. This LBX is a dedicated investigation of potentially inspiring future narrative XR formats.

Universitat Pompeu Fabra

The AR Magic Lantern is a handheld smart projector that tracks its own location and orientation so it can place situated digital content onto any surface in the environment. This technology allows group-oriented, co-located, and situated AR experiences like no other AR technology fostering group dynamics in public spaces.
