The Transdisciplinary Design Networks (TDN) research group at Design Academy Eindhoven (DAE) is investigating the use of Networked XR environments to better facilitate transdisciplinary teams working across geographically distributed locations as if they were collocated; especially, in fields where collaboration requires active engagement with 3D/hybrid objects, visualisations or immersive content. The Trans Realities Lab is a dedicated facility that supports these research tracks.

Project Objective

The aim of XR-IT is a suite of integrated components that work both with and within the commercial and open source software/hardware components that we have already assembled in building our current Networked XR environment. The suite of tools – when used in conjunction with a defined set of commercial and open source components – will deliver a complete Networked XR systems level framework that will support academic, cultural and business organisations in more easily establishing nodes and operating on an XR network, or in creating their own Networked XR environments.

Context

Project started with building web tools for professionals to set up rehabilitation procedures and define new excercises. With the tools, we can move different joints as needed and define key poses in the exercise, and finally generate the animation between them to offer playback to the professional.
We will develop in collaboration with patients and healthcare professionals a prototype of a personalized, home-based therapeutic VR application for patients with chronic low back pain and test it in a clinical trial.
We will help create a more personalized and embodied experience by experimentally testing VR-related technologies including eye-tracking and haptic garments in laboratory settings.

Project Goals

1.

We will develop in collaboration with patients and healthcare professionals a prototype of a personalized, home-based therapeutic VR application for patients with chronic low back pain.

We will test the efficacy of our prototype in a clinical trial.

3.

We will experimentally test state-of-the-art EMIL VR-related technologies as potential extensions of our clinical prototype, including eye-tracking and haptic garments in laboratory settings.
