eXtended Reality – Intraverse Toolkit
Trans Realities Lab
The Trans Realities Lab fuses technologies and approaches from the fields of Design, Systems Engineering, Performing Arts, X Reality, Virtual Production, Animation, Cinema and Games to provide a transdisciplinary hub for research, and the investigation of networked XR mediated environments for collaboration and education. The lab also provides students with an environment to investigate new technologies and hybrid approaches, discover design opportunities across X realities, collaborate in research and connect with peers globally.

Project Objective

XR-IT is the solution for prototyping and deploying high-fidelity collaborative Intraverses.
What’s an Intraverse?
It’s a private or user group specific (think: Intranet vs. Internet) spatial evironment that coalesces geographically dispersed locations into a shared virtual or mixed reality world.
Intraverses with XR-IT deliver secure collaborative spatial environments, where users across different physical locations can collaborate without the limitations of the 2D web. XR-IT provides a framework and tools that work together with industry standard solutions (think: games engines, motion capture systems, streaming…) so that the complexities of networks, firewalls, mundane configuration changes, and the like are resolved. The approach of XR-IT is to integrate best-of-breed industry standard (commercial and open source) solutions so that you can focus on creation and experimentation, not integration and networking.
XR-IT bridges the gap between physical and digital realms, empowering creators to collaborate Across Locations, facilitate virtual productions, and immerse themselves and others in virtual worlds but also prototype for new worlds.
With a focus on accessibility, XR-IT introduces a user-experience-orientated web-based interface where the complex underlaying complexity of distributed systems in the spatial domain are abstracted into a language of functional production. This intuitive platform empowers creators to experiment freely without technical barriers, opening up opportunities for innovation in spatial collaborataion across the fields of media production, engineering, education, and research.

Project Goals

Collaboratively unite teams and productions across the globe via motion capture, distributed virtual environments, audio/video streams and more.
The XR-IT user interface delivers the creative power to easily connect and configure complex sub-systems regardless of their geographic location, to quickly build and run collaborative real-time shared spatial environments.
