These museum visitors are holding the AR Magic Lantern, an augmented reality projector designed for in-situ group experiences.

Using a button on the device, visitors can interact with virtual content, like these stones from the ancient city wall. The AR Magic Lantern has turned an uninteresting section of wall into a portal to the past. The device tracks its position in space with no external technology, giving the user full freedom to move and explore.

This experience was co-developed by Universitat Pompeu Fabra and curators at the Musueum of the History of Barcelona.
